Nocturnal Caress

Not much to say, really. The Halloween reading at Galileo’s went pretty well, I think. I read first, then Craig, and Bev closed the show. I wasn’t really sure what to read, but the reviewer for FearZone.net had commented on how much he liked my story “Nocturnal Caress,” so I decided to go with that. When I gave it another look, I have to say I thought it was a better story than I remembered it being. The audience seemed to agree; several people came up afterward and said they liked it, which was pretty cool. It’s a “clean” story, too … no sex,  no blood, no violence and nobody dies.

That’s not how it was in the first draft back in the mid-1980s. The little girl was eaten. Her little foot rolled out from under the bed, the ankle all gnawed up, and that’s all that was left for her mother to find. The version that made it into Darkscapes is much better.

Another big thanks to Tapestry for setting up the reading.

How about that time change? Sucks. I was up at 4:30 this morning. I’m still fighting off some bronchitis. I woke up coughing and couldn’t get back to sleep. On the up side, I spent some of the wee morning writing another chapter of Inheritance. I’ve passed the minimum word requirement now. I suspect I’ll wrap it up in about three more chapters, or 15-20 pages.

What NFL running back holds the record for most yards rushing in a single game? That would be the Minnesota Viking rookie sensation (from Oklahoma), Adrian Peterson. He set the record today against the San Diego Chargers. And the Vikings won the game.
