I was gonna do a long post about this past weekend’s FenCon. But, honestly, I’m so tired I can barely keep my eyes open. It was fun. I sold more books than I did at any other convention this year. Saw several old friends, talked some business, griped about the state of the small press, discussed HWA chapter stuff a little, and sat on panels. No real partying for me this time. I wanted to go to the SoonerCon party to thank the folks again for having me this year and let them know I’d like to come back … but their party didn’t start until 11 p.m. and by that time I was getting ready for bed. It was a good time. Many thanks to Tim Miller & Co. for having me. As always, Tim was a very gracious host, always asking if people were having fun, needed anything, etc.

I finished reading John Farris’s Son of the Endless Night last night. I have mixed feelings. It was a good story, but if I’d been his editor I would have been slashing up those invented adverbs. The dude was slapping -ly on the end of just anything and it was completely unnecessary. It also got kind of tedious how all the witnesses were killed off. After the main character was possessed and committed a murder, every time a chapter started with one of the witnesses, you knew that person was about to die. And the cop getting flushed down the toilet was just d-u-m-b. And, the kidnapping of the possessed guy’s niece … why was that even in there? It seemed like filler, and the rescue just made me wonder why they didn’t send the stereotypical redneck Pentecostal preacher in to exorcise the demon since his God’s Green Machine truck so easily knocked out all those other evil entities. That seems like a lot of griping for a book I was always eager to pick up again.

Okay, that’s it for tonight. I’m sending kids to bed, then sacking out before I fall asleep at the keyboard.
