Tristan + Isolde

We watched Tristan + Isolde last night. Despite Kim alternating between complaining about how slow it was and bawling, I liked it quite a bit. I thought they did a nice job of blending the action and romance without overdoing either. I need to look up the legend of Tristan and Isolde. All I really know about it is what Dante had in The Divine Comedy and some Joseph Campbell commentary in one of his books. I was surprised at how closely the story resembled that of Guinevere and Lancelot. If I’m not mistaken, Campbell said this story is older than the Arthurian stories.

There’s a certain kid who lives across the street here who just needs to have his neck squeezed until his empty head pops off. If stupidity was cash, this kid would be Bill Gates. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve had to send him home for breaking toys, digging in my yard or throwing bricks.

Anybody out there have extra chores for a 14-year-old boy and/or 11-year-old girl? Alex’s best friend has gone to Washington for the summer and Sara learned today that her last friend on this street is moving away. They’re already bored with summer. Youth really is wasted on the young.
