OKC Underworld Party

The Underworld: Rise of the Lycans party hosted by Darkfaery Subculture Magazine at Skybar Ultralounge was last night. Vampires and werewolves and yuppies, oh my! Can yuppies have original thoughts? It’s a socio-scientific mystery that intrigues me. Also, what makes them experience those strange jerky movements when crappy music is played too loud?

Anyway, I am not much of a social animal and there were only a few people there I know, so I mostly sat at the bar with my wife and watched the proceedings. There was Tarot reading by Boobzilla, belly dancing and … some other dancing that involved a very tall drag queen. I wasn’t able to see all that one, but it involved a box, a woman, and a rope, or something like a rope, anyway. The people who could see it sure enjoyed it. Afterward, the woman had to roll the “dead” drag queen off the floor.

I did meet some very interesting people. Most notable was a reverend whose name I have forgotten part of. I’m bad with names. Hopefully that’ll come back to me soon. Needless to say, he was not a Pat Robertson kind of preacher. He introduced me to a young journalist named Fire, who seemed really smart. Of course, Duvy and Zenon were there, and vampire author Jackson Compton.

There were drawings for a complete set of The Werewolf Saga books and for a stack of Jackson’s books. Caleb, the guy who won my books, had come to OKC from Tulsa for the party, so it was cool he got something for his trip.

We left at about 12:30. On the way down a trio of yuppies were in the elevator with us, bitching about the “freaks” that took over their techno bar. I bet an hour with a Darkfaery Girl would have left them drooling idiots. Well, you know … moreso than before.

The outing certainly proved that I’m not really part of the subculture. What is so cool about the subculture, though, is that they’ll accept you if you accept them.

Oh yeah. The movie. I’m still wanting to see it, of course. There were lots of posters, shirts and hats given away.  Hopes are still high that it’ll be really good.

  1. Again, sorry that I missed it. I’m going to have to start taking better notes on dates.
Glad you had a good time!
