My friend Duvy over at Darkfaery Subculture Magazine is having a party to celebrate the release of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. The party will be at Skyy Bar in downtown Oklahoma City on Jan. 16. They’ll have all kinds of stuff going on, as you can see from this poster. Skyy Bar is not the kind of place I’d typically visit, being a 42-year-old married headbanger (it’s a techno pickup bar for singles, mostly), but Duvy has put me on the VIP list, so I’m going to try very hard to make an appearance. You do have to be 21 to get in, by the way.
Darkfaery will giving away passes for a free screening of the film, which I believe is on Jan. 22. There will also be some T-shirts and hats to give away.
The first two Underworld movies are serious guilty pleasures of mine. Some of the acting is really stilted and some of the dialogue is laughable. Yeah, Kate Beckinsale looks super hot in her outfits, but I think Michael Sheen is the best actor to appear in the earlier films and he’s back for this one. I’m not even sure what it is, but I do like these movies, and this third installment, a prequel, will have more focus on the werewolves, so I’m sure I’ll like it, too.
You may not think of OKC having much of a Goth subculture, but you’d be wrong. This party is sure to be interesting. If you can make it out, you really should. It’ll be a lot of fun.
Otherwise, not much going on. Writing came to a screeching halt this week as I’ve gone and gotten myself buried in student essays again. This is because the last batch was so horrible, I gave them a chance to write one more before the semester ends on Friday. These essays are short, at least. I’ll have a new batch of students for English IV on Monday; my two AP classes will stay the same. I’ve had a lot of these incoming kids before and am looking forward to having them for their final semester of high school. I think.
