Today I learned that you can’t be too picky about accepting substitute work. I held out last night, not taking the elementary school and learning disability jobs that came in, thinking I’d be inundated with calls between 5-6:30 a.m. this morning, like I have been for the past few weeks. Didn’t happen. So I spent today taking care of various things around the house and working toward finishing that contract writing.
When jobs started coming in tonight, I moved quickly, accepting a business class at a high school for Friday and social studies at a junior high on Monday. These are for the smaller district that doesn’t pay as well. Then the big district, which pays $40 per day more, started calling, and one of the assignments they had was an English class. Oh well. Live and learn, I guess. At least with the jobs I accepted I won’t have to drive very far.
Alex and Sara have both set up MySpace pages. This means there’s a constant battle for my computer. Sara hasn’t done a lot with hers, other than lie about her age and try to name it Teddy Geiger 3. Alex, on the other hand, has gone the way of overkill. Most of his friends are girls from school. It’s kinda funny to watch him sending them messages through e-mail, MySpace and his cell phone. When I was his age I was already shackled to … Oh yeah, Kim reads this blog now. haha Hi, sweetie!
I gotta get this contract writing out of the way so I can work on my fiction some more. It’s been too long since I’ve done that.
Speaking of which, today I queried a publisher that’s looking at The Prometheus Syndrome. Twelve weeks ago they said they’d respond in 8-10 weeks. So I quered to check on the book and was told they’d respond within 8-10 weeks. No wonder writers are penniless lunatics.
