Another Monday without work


Will I find a job before I go insane? Who knows? For years I’ve toyed with the idea of getting the alternative certification to teach high school. I think this week I’ll drop the $40 registration fee and start that process. Because, ya know, I just ain’t around enough kids here at the house.

I revised a few more chapters of BB today and added another new one, finally putting me over the magic 80,000 word mark that is the minimum I’ve seen for historical romance novels. See?

I doubt I add any more chapters, but there will be chapters that are still beefed up a bit. I’m sure I’ll hit 85,000 words and may even end up closer to 90,000, which is better because most other publishers was 90,000-100,000 words for an historical romance novel. Of course, BB is now historical paranormal romance.

In other news, I got a call from a friend at OCU this morning. That was interesting, and further exposed the lies I was told. See, I was told this friend was going to be fired in the reorganization. Instead, I was fired and he’s getting a job equal to the one I thought I’d have.

    teaching?
    Now, don’t get me wrong – I’ve heard you speak to writers’ groups and at conferences, so I know that you’d do a good job.
    But, let’s look at the other side of this for a minute. I’m trying to imagine myself in a high school English class taught by Steve, I mean Mr. Wedel.
    “Today we’ll be reading Poe. Tomorrow we’ll be reading Stoker. Next week Mary Shelley…”
    And the kids would be passing around copies of Shara and giggling on the back row.
    Gives you quite a mental image, doesn’t it?

      Yes? And? You say that as if it was a bad thing. Poe, Stoker, Shelley, they’re all important authors. I certainly can’t expose young minds to trash like D.H. Lawrence. Oh. Wait. According to one reviewer, Shara is the “multi-orgasmic werewolf.”
      But, looking over the application material, I doubt I take this route. If I read it right, it would require even more schooling at the undergrad level. I’d rather just get more graduate credits and teach college.
