I guess I should start off by mentioning the hurricane. Did you notice how it veered north โ€ฆ away from Corpus Christi? Perhaps I am he of little faith? Perhaps. Whatever.

So, Iโ€™m in Dallas for FenCon. Alas, Joe Lansdale is among those evacuees of the coast and was unable to make it up here for the con. Sorry Cherie, but I didnโ€™t get to pass on your thanks to him.

Day One of the con has been fun. I was on two panels, have already sold more books than I did at Horrorfind (which was zero, if you recall, so it wasnโ€™t hard to beat). I have another panel at 11 p.m. โ€ฆ on blogging, coincidentally. Itโ€™ll be interesting to see whoโ€™s sober enough to show up. Not that Iโ€™ve seen much drinking going on. Itโ€™s not like Horrorfind, though I guess there are some room parties going on or planned.

Personally, Iโ€™m following in the footsteps of the mighty George Thoroughgood and am sitting here alone, typing, with a Baltimore Sunrise to sip on. If you donโ€™t know what that is โ€ฆ well, you probably donโ€™t need to know. Once this blog entry is gone, itโ€™s back to work on Ulrik. The story is flowing really, really well. Itโ€™s just a matter of having the time to work on it. Iโ€™ll likely spend a good deal of tomorrow locked away in here writing. I love my kids, but damn! Itโ€™s sweet to have quiet, uninterrupted time to write. I havenโ€™t had to fetch a Popsicle, make a sandwich, clean a mess or kill a fly all day.

However, that does not mean Iโ€™m complaint free. Perhaps you know of my love/HATE relationship with SBC Yahoo. The damn Dallas phone number wonโ€™t pick up. When I try to dial in on my clunky old laptop it just rings and rings and then gives me a message saying it couldnโ€™t make a connection. So to check e-mail today I friggin had to make a long distance call back to Moore, Oklahoma, just to get a connection.

Iโ€™ve spent a good deal of time with Angeline Hawkes-Craig today. Sheโ€™s full of stories. And I got to sit beside Charlee Jacob on a panel. It was great seeing both of them again. David Lee Anderson is down here, too, so Iโ€™m glad to see Iโ€™m not the only Okie.

I also got to meet “Alien Motives” Bill for the first time. He gave me a paperback of L. Sprague De Camp’s biography of H.P. Lovecraft. Sweet! You know what I’ll be reading tonight.

Okay. Iโ€™m writing this in MS Word. Iโ€™m going to try some other connection numbers in this area code and see how it goes. If I have to call Moore again, though, I didnโ€™t want to be connected while I typed this.

  1. Oh poo.
    Well, thanks for trying ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Glad to hear your sister is okay Steve, act of God or otherwise. And if she’s anything like me, she’ll be rubbing your nose in it for years. ;o)

    1. Well now, that would be very Christian of her, would it? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. He Lives!
I always think you’ve gone for good then like Christ you rise from the dead. ๐Ÿ™‚
    Miss you man.

  4. Don’t have a blog…..
Lovecraft. Wow. I haven’t heard that name in a long time. I must review often to reacquaint myself with the creative world.
I don’t have a blog, Steve. In fact, I don’t blog. Seems like a risk when you are a professor who has been followed in mysterious ways.

    1. Re: Don’t have a blog…..
I suspect I know who you are, Professor. But you’re more than welcome to send me an e-mail at steve(at)stevenewedel(dot)com if you’re not the professor I already e-mailed earlier today.
Me? Like Christ? Oooookay. I can’t multiply your fishes or offer you immortality, but I can swap a jug of water for a bottle of wine if the need and opportunity arises.
Yes, you must come back to the creative world. And read more Lovecraft! Cthulhu demands it.
