When you’re old …

Local radio station KRXO does a show called “Classic Nine at 9” every morning. Today they are playing the rock hits of 1982 … and I remember every one of them from high school. In most cases I owned the cassette the songs were on. Foreigner’s “Juke Box Hero” just went off. Earlier we had J. Geils Band’s “Centerfold” and Van Halen’s “Dancing in the Streets.” Ah, and here’s Billy Squier to say “Everybody Wants You.”

Conjures memories of my massive Pioneer boombox. And the crappy little Toyota Corona that was my first car when I got my driver’s license in 1982.

Yeah, you know you’re old when your high school hits are being played on the classic rock radio station.

  1. I was 12 in 1982, but I still feel a little giddy when “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts comes on.
    Uh… Don’t tell anyone, okay? 😉

    1. Ha! That one just went off.

    2. That is a key song to my development as a human being (especially the line where she’s the older woman – and you would, if she looked like Joan Jett then).

      1. Ditto. Joan was mighty cute and had that bad girl image. We saw her in concert last summer. She still puts on a damn good show.

        1. Excellent. I don’t think she’s ever toured over here, more’s the pity.

  2. Moving up four notches to number ten…
Oh Mickey, what a pity, you don’t understand
You take me by the heart when you take me by the hand
Oh Mickey, you’re so pretty, can’t you understand
    It’s guys like you, Mickey…
Ooh what you do Mickey, do Mickey
    Don’t break my heart, Mickey…
    Oh Mickey, you’re so fine
You’re so fine, you blow my mind,
    Hey Mickey, hey Mickey!

    That about 1982, isn’t it?

Yeah, I think so. I knew a girl named Mickie at that time. Oh, how she came to hate that song.
I’ve been meaning to e-mail you. I’ve got that last e-mail you sent and I will answer it. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

      1. Re: Moving up four notches to number ten…
        Looking forward to it!

      Toni Basil. Mmmm.
She was in “Five Easy Pieces” you know.

All I really remember of Toni Basil is a cheerleader’s uniform…
I like cheerleaders… *wipes slobber from corner of mouth*
        Mmm… cheerleaders…

        1. Re: Moving up four notches to number ten…
          Mmmmmmm
We don’t generally have cheerleaders over here, so I’m purely informed by everything I’ve seen on American TV and films.

              Wahey!

          2. Re: Moving up four notches to number ten…
            No cheerleaders?
How do you know when your team has scored then?

            1. Re: Moving up four notches to number ten…
              Generally, it’s the supporters yelling.
We should have cheerleaders though. I’d have been inclined to play more than rugby if there’d been cheerleaders!
