Pagans, piracy … and a contest

This is just a quicky to revise part of yesterday’s piracy rant. In most of the cases, I sent the pirates an invoice from PayPal demanding they pay a minimum of 1 cent per word for use of the material they stole. For the bastard who stole “Unholy Womb” and didn’t even give me credit, the invoice was for 3 cents a word. Thanks go to Angeline Hawkes-Craig for the PayPal idea.

In one of the other cases, I’ve worked out a deal with the Web site administrators. They’ll keep the story online and link back to my site. Why do that for one and not the others? Because it’s a Web site for Pagans and going way, way back to my days as a staff writer for The Renaissance magazine, I’ve had nothing but good dealings with the Pagan community. These are folks who always seem to practice the message of peace and tolerance they preach and I have a deep respect for that.

So much so that I’m not only letting the Paganality site keep my story online, but providing this link and encouraging you to pay them a visit. After all, today is the Winter Solstice.

Hey, since it is Winter Solstice, how about a quick contest? Why not? Yesterday was such a crappy day, maybe I can make this one better right out of the gate by offering to give something away. The first person to post a reply that includes a link to one of the articles I wrote for The Renaissance will get a copy of the magazine Whispers from the Shattered Forum, Issue 10, that includes my story “Wandering John.” This is the only place you can find “Wandering John.” I’ll sign it for you. Here’s a contest hint — My articles in The Renaissance do not appear under my name, but the “faire name” is a variation of my name. Have fun!

    • Ah, Liz, you didn’t think I’d make it easy, did ya? You’ll never find it via Google. The only way is to go to the magazine’s site and look through the back issues. Several of my articles are online.
Here’s one more hint — The editor knighted me.
      Have fun!

  1. Steve, sorry to hear about this piracy ordeal. Grrr. The PayPal suggestion was a great idea.
As for the contest…Vol 1, Issue #2 “The Way of the Witch” by Sir Stephan of Wada’s Hill.
    How’s that?
And thank you for all the positive comments.
