No work

Work was cancelled today. I know and horrorwench would laugh their assess off over the thought of schools and businesses closing over the paltry amount of snow and ice we have. The ice actually is pretty bad. There’s at least 1/4 inch covering the windows of my car. But the snow hasn’t even covered the street and probably won’t. The ice has pulled down some tree limbs and powerlines, though.

It’s kinda cool that in my position I have can notify the media that the university is closed. Hell, I could tell them any school is closed, as the whole state has the same password. I do have to get the official word from OCU administration before making the call. That word came at 5:30 a.m. aka 30 minutes before my alarm would have began notifying me that I needed to begin hitting the snooze button. So I called all the media outlets, but then had to watch the TV to see if the kids’ school were closed. They were not, so I had to drive the 12-year-old boy to junior high, come back and wait an hour, the drive the 10-year-old girlchild to her school.

I may go to the office, anyway. I have a press release I need to get written and sent. Or not. Maybe I’ll just stay home and work on the four new freelance stories I have to do for the paper. I didn’t want four, not when I’m back at the day job, but these should be fairly easy to do. I’d rather just go back to my nice warm bed, though.

  1. oh i would never laugh at school closings – winter is so harsh up here that it takes a REALLY bad storm to close them here and i have on occasion taken the matter into maternal hands and kept them home even when school is open… cuz Hell No are they riding on a bus under bad conditions, no matter what the freakin school board says!
i talked to my friend in iowa earlier and yeah, damn… there’s some serious ice south of me. he said that branches that should be 15 feet up are touching the ground and threatening to bust… that’s ice!
stay inside… hybernate… conditions like that are not fit for man or beast [of course you would be the latter of the two =))))]

  2. All right – if it’s actually dangerous with the powerlines down – that’s different. But I still need to see pictures. C’mon now. 😉
    Where is horrorwench?
We’re supposed to be getting a big storm tomorrow. The same one you guys had – but it’s turned Canadian. I should take pictures for you from my office window at the top of the building.
