Intolerance among the creative class

If you’ve read any of the columns in my archives, you know that I’m mostly a pretty conservative kinda guy. You also know that I work as public relations director at a liberal arts university, and most people know universities tend to be more on the left of things political. My boss is an openly gay guy. The graphic designer who works on the other side is an out-of-the-closet lesbian who refers to me as a “reasonable Republican.”

My point is that we can have conversations about controversial issues, state our opinions, and remain civil and walk away respecting and liking one another.

I have to come to the online forums frequented by the creative class of writers to find true intolerance. What am I talking about?

Well, hell and damnation. Upon making one of my infrequent visits to the Horror Writers Association message board, I find that the Jewish person I was about to blast for calling Christians, Republicans and the majority of American voters dumb on that board, has apologized for offending people. I’ll take the high road and not belabor the point.

Just thought I’d mention that since I promised some bashing in the last entry. I’m sure I’ll find something else to bitch about later.
