I’ve worked on two projects this evening. The first was very difficult, while the second was quite easy. Let’s get the second one out of the way first. Ulrik update:
81,356 / 100,000
The hard one is an introduction to Angeline Hawkes-Craig‘s new themed collection, The Commandments. I suddenly have a new-found respect for people who have written these things, particularly Kelley Armstrong (Call to the Hunt) and Gord Rollo (Shara, the as-yet unpublished edition).
This is the first intro I’ve written to somebody else’s book. Angie told me Eric at Nocturne Press said I could write up to 8,000 words for the introduction. I wrote a little over 700 tonight and it took me about two hours to do it. What do you say in an introduction? The direction I’m heading now is part historical essay, part social/political column and part book review. I’m not sure what the final mix will be, but I’ve had this on my plate longer than I’d like and hope to finish it up this weekend.
The only other bit of writing news is that Edmond Outlook called and asked if I could do one of my stories for the February issue instead of March. That means doing the interview tomorrow and having the story turned in by Sunday. Sure, I can do that.
In other news, I think the parents have won the War of the Potty. Jacob is using his musical chair regularly during the day. Not completely without mishap, but he’s going to it when he needs to. Woohoo!
